Ingrown Toenails:

Ingrown nails occur when the nail has been cut shorter than the end of the toe, and commonly a sharp edge penetrates the skin and causes pain and infection.  Ingrown nails can be a one-time mistake, or a chronic problem due to the toenail being too curved.  These are very common in young teenagers.  The only good treatment is to remove the offending piece of nail.  Local anaesthetic is sometimes required.
